Amherstburg Open Air is Back

Amherstburg Open Air is Back

The concept of closing streets to cars and safely opening them up for pedestrians and cyclists is a best practice across the world. We are excited that Amherstburg is running its Open Air weekends from June 2 through Sept. 3, but we must admit we are also envious that Montreal is now “retiring” (closing) some of its streets permanently. We can only hope that happens to a short block on Murray street when all the building restorations are done.

This year a number of things are happening to make the streets more interesting, more fun, and much busier.

The town’s tourism office is really upping the live music scene and introducing Night Markets on June 16, July 21, and August 18.

Various businesses like the River Bookshop, Evelyn's Candy House, and White Woods Home are investing in colourful street furniture. Musicland is installing a garage door that will be opened to host live music acts.

And a new group called The Core—a group of 17 local businesses coming together—is hosting “Play Amherstburg” on June 11, July 16, and August 6.

So much is going on that every Wednesday prior to Open Air we will be sending you a “What’s Happening at Open Air this Weekend” newsletter that tells you what the town and local businesses are planning.

So once again Amherstburg will be the place to shop local, be entertained, and enjoy great food.

See you on the open streets
