Books are magic because reading to children improves reading skills, expands vocabulary, enhances concentration, and can really be fun. So getting young children into the habit of reading and introducing them to the fun is quite important. We like to believe that children who read grow up to be better adults.

This year we are really ramping up our Sunday Story Time Series. Starting May 29 at 1 pm, and every Sunday during Open Air Amherstburg, we will host a Story Time right in front of our shop (if it rains we will simply walk upstairs to the Hole in the Wall). Our children’s books’ expert Lauren is curating our titles - if you have suggestions just email and let Lauren know your thoughts. We will frequently have a “celebrity” reader so you never know who might be there for the fun!

Colleen and I have enjoyed a long relationship with the Windsor Symphony Orchestra (WS0). We have hosted their Brass Quintet the past seven years in the King’s Navy Yard Park. This year we host them on August 14th. We will remind you again closer to that date. When we opened our bookshop it was only natural that we include the WSO in our desire to create a community meeting place that supported the Arts. After all the Arts include, not only literature - but visual arts (more on that later) and music.

To help kick off our new Story Time season we are delighted to have WSO’s Music Director Robert Franz. Robert is definitely qualified to entertain your ‘littles”. On his Youtube channel, Robert has read more than 25 children’s books, using the same enthusiastic energy that he uses to direct his orchestra. On the 29th Robert will read from these books and others:

Interrupting Chicken by David Ezra Stein, The Book with No Pictures by B.J. Novak and The Remarkable Farkle McBride by John Lithgow

Mark your calendar for our next Sunday Story Time on June 5 and for our future "celebrity" readers throughout the next few months.

Looking forward to seeing you every Sunday through the summer
