Gift Giving Ideas

Gift Giving Ideas

Dec 8, 2020

Well, the Christmas season is upon us and part of the joy of the season is finding that perfect gift.

The team at River Bookshop is here for you with gift giving ideas for everyone in the family!

For the Foodie on your list....cookbooks make a great gift, from regular comfort food with Jamie Oliver's 7 Ways to festive fare with Anna Olson's Set for the Holidays. Get a little more creative with Sushi: The Beginner's Guide or add some cajun flare from The New Orleans Kitchen. Cookbooks really are the gift that gives back since you'll likely get to enjoy the meals produced. Win-Win for you!

For the littles on your list....some crafty Klutz activity kits and a selection of jigsaw puzzles are sure to capture their attention long enough for you to enjoy your own book (check out our next section!) and a warm cup of tea. We can cover both bases there with books for every taste and our delicious Sloane teas.

Fabulous Flowers, Egg Carton Animals, Ultimate Spy & Code Vault, Rainbow Catcher, Crystal Dragon, Dino Finger Puppets

For the hopeless romantic.... If you want the tried and true, there's the new Danielle Steel, All That Glitters and if you want to wander off the beaten path try A Lovestory for Bewildered Girls, a heart-warming tale of female friendship and first love in all its guises. For the historical fiction fan we have Atomic Love and there is Dear Emmie Blue for those who like a story that sneaks up on you wraps itself around your heart.

The Book is better.....whether young or old we've got your made-into-a-movie book picks. Middle grade readers will love the mystery and intrigue of Enola Holmes, Sherlock's little sister and HIlda, resident of Trolberg and intrepid adventurer. For the teen set, we offer Dumplin' a book that is fun and funny but carries a message as well.

And for the grown ups - Stephen King's The Stand a classic tale of good vs. evil in an apocalyptic America ravaged by a deadly virus (yikes). The Flight Attendant might be the one for you - a story in which the reader knows nothing and yet still knows more than the main character. Historical buffs, will love The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society, told through a series of letters, the story focuses on the Island of Guernsey during its German occupation in World War II.

We all have that To-Be-Read pile.... Our Penguin Classics rack is always changing and holds some of the most requested, most read classic stories. From the heart-breaking beauty of Anna Karenina to the horror of The Hound of the Baskervilles to everything in between - we're sure to have that one book that you've always meant to read.

And That's a Wrap!... Remember we do have gift bags, tissue paper and greeting cards making us a one stop gift shopping destination.

We offer online shopping too, just visit our website at www.riverbooksop.com to browse our products. Pick up and delivery options are available.

And as always you are welcome to visit us in the shop - due to Covid regulations we do limit customers in the shop to 10, all staff and customers are required to wear a mask and social distance.

And don't forget the next two weekends are our Christmas Marketplace upstairs at the Hole in the Wall. Come for the shopping and stay for the hot chocolate and cozy fireplace. Remember to visit our Richmond St. retail neighbours as well!

We hope to see you there,

Richard, Colleen, Lori and the River Bookshop team.
