When we opened the River Bookshop we said that our mission was to help increase the economic, cultural and social health of Amherstburg. We introduced our values: to educate, inspire, engage and entertain. We also were not shy when we quoted the late politician and activist John Lewis when we said “we are going to create good trouble”.
Our team believes we are living our values and making a contribution to the community. But we know we can always do more. So when a group of residents and experts came together with the goal of making Amherstburg even better Lori, Colleen and I were all in.
The initiative is called T.H.R.I.V.E. Its mission is “to inspire a thriving community through creating connections between best practices and good local governance. T.H.R.I.V.E is an acronym that stands for: timeless, relevant, healthy, inspired, values and engaged. It will be identifying and developing at least nine initiatives that we believe will make Amherstburg even better. Importantly we will approach all our work based on evidence based data, international best practices and always following the science. We will also be taking a very civil and positive approach because we think Amherstburg could use more of that these days.
We are joining T.H,R,I.V.E. and encourage you to as well. By joining and engaging in its work you will learn more about what makes great communities great and you will have a hand in making Amherstburg even better.
