THE FORT MALDEN DOUBLE HEADER

THE FORT MALDEN DOUBLE HEADER

Aug 31, 2022

The River Bookshop loves to shine a light on our area’s special organizations and properties. Over our short existence we have hosted presentations on Freedom Museum, Park House, Marsh Collection and Belle Vue, and we are always on the lookout for more.

Ford Malden is hugely important to Amherstburg. Would there even have been an Amherstburg if the Fort wasn’t built? Houses and businesses only sprang up to support the barracks. The Fort anchors our heritage reputation and our history.

Our team at the bookshop is a big fan of the Fort. We know a bit about its history but have an appetite for more, and we think you should as well. So one day we cold-called Alex Dale, the Fort’s Interpretation Manager, and asked him if he would like to talk about the Fort in our Hole in the Wall event space. Not only did Alex say “YES” but he suggested four potential topics!! We immediately jumped on two ideas for this year and agreed to hold two in reserve for 2023.

Tomorrow, September 1st at 6:30pm, Alex will talk about the general history of Fort Malden, its role in the War of 1812, the Upper Canada Rebellion and much more.

Two weeks later, on September 14th at 6:30pm, Alex will be back with the “Martial Music of Fort Malden.” A colourful and musical 🎵 event like nothing we have ever hosted before. Alex and staff will be dressed in period military uniforms and perform the sounds of drums, bugles and pifes. Plus, weather permitting, it will be held outside in our beautiful “Amherstburg’s Art Alley” between the bookshop and The Panetteria.

We encourage you to email info@riverbookshop.com to sign up if you know you’ll be attending. Invite a friend to come with you! And be prepared to be educated, engaged, inspired and entertained.
