WE’RE BACK AND IT FEELS GOOD - REALLY GOOD!

WE’RE BACK AND IT FEELS GOOD - REALLY GOOD!

Jun 15, 2021

This Covid Pandemic is far from being over (people, please get vaccinated), but things are definitely getting better, ICU’s aren’t jammed, businesses are open with social distancing rules; and people are out reconnecting with family and friends.

The River Bookshop is now open EVERYDAY until Christmas Day and is delighted to welcome back our readers. We missed talking about books and frankly we missed the sales. We are also delighted that Open Air is back for 2021. We have been very vocal in our support of Open Air because there is so much data, best practices and scientific support for open streets. And a lot of that support can be found in a variety of the titles we sell.

Check out the hashtag #openair2021 across social media to see photos of all that is happening on Amherstburg’s open streets.

Open Air has also allowed us to start Storytime for children just outside our front door. We like what Lead Book Seller Lori calls our young readers: “the littles”. Each Sunday at 1 pm we put out comfortable chairs and pillows for parents and “littles” to gather around our story teller.

Research clearly indicates that reading helps develop a child’s brain, ability to focus, concentration, social and communication skills. It also sparks a child’s imagination and stimulates curiosity. Look for some special guest story tellers as we go through the summer.

Spaces fill up quickly but contact us to reserve your spot via email at info@riverbookshop.com, by phone at 226-906-8311 or in store when you visit.

As soon as Covid restrictions loosen up further we will be re-introducing our speaker series in our event space Hole in the Wall. River Bookshop was on a real roll with speakers last November and we can't wait to bring you some more interesting, entertaining and engaging events. Our focus initially will be on local speakers: history, authors, nature etc. As soon as the way is clear we will be back with details on topics, dates and times! As we now have the ability to film live events you will be able to enjoy them safely in our shop or via Zoom

The Richmond / Ramsay corner will  be welcoming new neighbours! The Panetteria Bakery will be opening really soon. We can’t wait for you to meet the two bakers Anna and Simon. Not only has 248 Ramsay been completely rebuilt to create an inviting shopping experience but we will be creating a seating area outside so you can enjoy their baked goods and great coffee in a relaxing garden with new bold and creative murals that beautify the neighbourhood.

Construction on 63 and 65 Richmond should start soon. We are tearing down the current small building and creating a three story building, with two retail units on the ground floor, and two residential units on the second and third floors. We think you will love the design that Architectural Design Associates has created. It really compliments the architectural history of old Amherstburg. We will let Colleen describe the retail concept that is going into #65 Richmond. The retail concept for #63 is still to be determined. But we promise you it will be unique to Amherstburg and introduce another great reason to shop down town.

In the mean time please drop into our bookshop. We know you could use a great read that might educate, inspire or entertain you. Our team would love to help you find that next read.
