WHAT MAKES AMHERSTBURG GREAT: BE SURE TO VOTE THIS COMING MONDAY!
WHAT MAKES AMHERSTBURG GREAT is that we live in a democracy and we all have a chance to exercise our opportunity to vote. To help determine which people are going to decide on the future direction of the town. Amherstburg goes to the polls this coming Monday. In the last election ONLY 39% of us voted. 61% did not take the time to decide on the seven people who would lead Amherstburg for four years.

WHAT MAKES AMHERSTBURG GREAT: CONTINUED
Municipal politics is hugely important to the current and future quality of our lives in Amherstburg. It is the level of government closest to all residents and it directly impacts our daily lives and the cost of living by controlling property taxes, essential services, infrastructure, and housing development. ![]()
So for an even better Amherstburg, YOU need do TWO things:
One: Do your research on the candidates. Do they have a clear and positive vision for the town? Have they prepared for their leadership role by researching best practices from other successful small towns? Have they read the books by proven community builders like Jane Jacobs? Do they understand the importance of empirical data instead of unproven anecdotal comments? So many surveys that are passed around are badly flawed. They don’t deliver statistically valid information and therefore should not be used to make decisions.

WHAT MAKES AMHERSTBURG GREAT: CONTINUED
Two: YOU need to vote! Take a few minutes of your day to go to the polls and cast your ballot. Locations are close by and the polls are open from 10AM until 8PM.

This past January, Shawn Micallef—author, columnist, and community champion with local roots—wrote a piece for the Toronto Star about city politics. With our election coming up in only 5 days, I thought you should read Shawn’s thoughts: “Cities (towns) are works-in-progress, but beware of rage baiters and people acting in bad faith. Some of them will be running for office, others will be commenting on it all. Ask yourself what their motivations are and if they’re presenting real solutions or just anger.”
What will make Amherstburg even better the next four years is electing a visionary, strategic, and positive town council. Individuals with dreams to make Amherstburg the Best Small Town in Ontario.
On Monday, an educated vote will help elect the right council. VOTE ON OCTOBER 26th. Polls open at 10AM and close at 8PM.

Last Sunday, Author/Illustrator MARCUS CUTLER joined us in the Children's Nook for Story Time. HUGE thank you to Marcus for reading and drawing for our Story Time families. THANK YOU MARCUS! We cannot wait to see you again sometime soon.
So much to see and do in Amherstburg!
We hope to see you downtown this weekend.
