INTIMATE AND ELEVATED
Over the past four years we have hosted over 250 events in our Hole in the Wall event space above the River Bookshop. During that time, many of our visitors suggested that the space would make a cozy little bar. Well, we listened!
We've kept the fireplace, upgraded our art collection (four Group of Seven), updated our furniture, and added a charming small bar, creating a very special forty-seat lounge bar.
Striving to create a unique entertainment space, we researched the county’s restaurant scene and decided that our major point of difference would be an incredible wine selection.
To do that we hired Canada’s only female Master Sommelier, Jennifer Huether. We also hired well-known local chef Enzo Mancuso to create a unique menu that pairs beautifully with Jennifer’s wines.
On top of great food and drink we will be offering a unique series of events. Just to name a few ... a poetry series hosted by Marty Gervais, Rum Runners performances, Artists of Colour, Movie Nights, Spin Some Vinyls, and much much more.
The Hole in the Wall will open this coming Friday and Saturday with two private events. Then our doors will open to the public after at 9PM, and we hope to see you there. Please remember we are a small lounge, so there may be a lineup.
Following this weekend, our plan is to open the lounge from Thursday to Saturday starting at 5:30PM, and soon we will have a reservation system so you can plan your visit. If you've been wishing for a great local night lounge to enjoying a delicious dinner or a special glass of wine, you NEED to visit our intimate and elevated Hole in the Wall, led by manager Rosemary Skinner. Our team looks forward to hosting you.

Did you know we purposely sell books that have been banned? Do you know why we want you to read banned books? Because you have the right to decide for yourself what you want to learn, and books develop empathy and understanding even when we don't agree with them.
At River Bookshop we are using the month of October to recognize the importance of Banned Books, and we are displaying our favourites. These selected books are 15% off for the month of October. You can find them in store and online (discount is automatic). Look for the black X tags around the store to find them! Stop in for a few minutes to learn about these powerful books. We sell them because knowledge is power and using knowledge is freedom!
Join us Sunday, October 6th at 11AM for Story Time. This Sunday we will share some popular, favourite, and much loved stories that have been challenged or banned.
Discover banned books and fill your shelves at home with a title or two, such as The Paper Bag Princess, Charlotte's Web, The Lorax, or Harriet the Spy.

It might have been raining all weekend long, but we set up our display inside so that we could talk about the importance of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Our display of the 94 calls to action, Indigenous heroes, quotes, and facts was created to educate, inspire, and engage. Thanks to all who stopped in to chat with the team, and a special thanks to Cindy for her hard work, and to the Ska:na Family Learning Centre for working with us.
So much to see and do in Amherstburg!
We hope to see you downtown this weekend.
