WITCHES WALK SATURDAY AT 2PM

Halloween is quickly approaching, and River Bookshop has planned some spooktacular events! Our Witches Walk, Trick or Treating and Costume Parade takes place this Saturday, October 25th at 2PM. We ask all participants to arrive by 1:45 at River Bookshop so that the parade can depart promptly at 2:00PM!

This allows our participating businesses to be ready and prepared for your attendance, and for the PARADE to move together for the judges to see everyone in costume. Some of our local downtown businesses who have already confirmed their participation are:

After the parade, Costume Contest winners will be announced. Costume categories: Best Literary Costume, Best Scary Costume, Best Team/Family Costume and so many more. 

KIDS HALLOWEEN POETRY CONTEST: LAST CALL

Halloween in Amherstburg is the theme of our kids' halloween poetry contest this year, and we can't wait to see how our young writers connect this spooky season to our historic riverfront hometown.

Contest Rules are:

  • All submissions must be written by a student between the ages of 6 and 18 years.
  • All submissions must be written about Halloween in Amherstburg.
  • All submissions must NOT be longer than 16 lines in length.
  • All submissions must be received by River Bookshop in person or by email at info@riverbookshop.com by noon on Friday, October 24th, 2025.

Please include your name, age, and contact info with your submission. Our winners will be contacted on Saturday, October 25th. Winners will also be invited to read their poem at Sunday Story Time on October 26th.

BOOKS IN THE 'BURG MEET UP TUESDAY

For our October book club meet up, we've selected Frankenstein! A classic by Mary Shelley, often considered to be the first work of sci-fi, also perfect to recognize Banned Book Week, and also with a new a movie directed by Guillermo del Toro! 

If you'd like to join us for this discussion, we'll be meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 7PM at River Bookshop, and offered on Zoom as well. Refreshments will be available through the Hole in the Wall. The books are 15% off for members. If you'd like to join the club to receive the discount and the link to Zoom, just email us at any time or visit us in store.

SPOOKY SILLY SUNDAY STORY TIME

The fun will continue on Sunday at our spooky, silly, and seasonal 11AM Story Time, where Halloween is the theme.

Come join us, along with members of our Youth Book Clubs, who will read us stories about ghosts, bats, and pumpkins, and we'll share some poems from our poetry contest too. See you at 11AM for Sunday Story Time at River Bookshop!

Our new baby boutique is opening soon, and we’re looking for enthusiastic, creative, and customer-focused team members to join us! Current openings:

  • Sales Associates - Provide exceptional customer service, assist with merchandising, and create a warm and friendly shopping atmosphere.
  • Operations & Support Roles - Assist with the day-to-day operations of the boutique, including inventory management, data entry, stock organization, and general support tasks that keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes.

River Bookshop was ON SITE at the WindsorEats Adult Book Fair last Sunday. Live music, food truck, spooky drinks, and so much more. Looking forward to the next one on December 7th, at the WindsorEats food hall. In the meantime, River Bookshop will be at Acorn & Oak coffee company in Essex this Sunday, October 26th, from 11AM to 4PM for a book fair & vendor market. Stop in for a visit!
