RISK IS THE FIRST STEP TO SUCCESS

Every owner who is opening a new shop in Amherstburg is taking a huge risk! Approximately 20% of new small businesses fail within the first year, with roughly 50% not surviving past five years and only about 30% to 35% making it to their 10th year. Owners of the many new shops springing up in Amherstburg are risking much, like signing long-term leases, capital costs to build out their spaces, purchasing inventory, and marketing and sales costs. On top of that are the necessary costs to run a business: staffing, insurance, taxes. Plus the long hours entrepreneurs put in working hard to succeed.

Definitely not for the faint-hearted!

The recent increase in unique shops is a big reason why Amherstburg has become a very popular destination the last couple of years. One new shop that is up for the challenge is Anne
Ussoletti’s Owl’s Nest Emporium on Dalhousie.

Anne just opened her shop last year after 17+ years running the town's very important Tourism Department. During her tenure, with the help of a great team, she created a number of best in class initiatives that will be covered in our What Makes Amherstburg Great series: Open Air, Uncommon Fest, and River Lights.

With the Owl’s Nest Emporium, Anne has personally curated a small cozy gift shop with a unique narrative. Discover one-of-a-kind gifts for special occasions that have been selected to evoke warm memories and inspire thoughtful vibes. Spend some time in this unique Amherstburg shop to see for yourself and help her beat the "new business" odds.

And remember, if you do not shop local, there will be no local shops! Listen to the story about the Owl's Nest Emporium this Saturday and Sunday at 8AM on CKBG 107.9FM.

Next week’s post shines a light on an entertaining Sunday morning fixture that has been engaging, educating, and entertaining young children for almost 6 years. After learning about it you may want to take children or grandchildren there for a special Easter morning.
