SHINING A LIGHT ON AMHERSTBURG
With “Landmarks and Lunch,” Windsor filmmaker Mike Stasko shines a spotlight on small town Ontario in a new original TV series, and two of the episodes focus on Amherstburg.
One show includes Kevin McDonald of Kids in the Hall at Fort Malden. Originally built in 1795, it was a British stronghold on the Detroit frontier during the War of 1812 and the rebellions of 1837-1838. Today it opens a fascinating door into Canada‘s early military history. If you haven’t visited in a while, it’s time you did before it shuts down for the winter.
River Bookshop recently celebrated its fifth birthday, so the timing is perfect. In addition to a visit to the beautiful bookshop, check out Richard Peddie’s tour of Amherstburg, showcasing King’s Navy Yard Park, the town’s heritage buildings, and its many new retail shops. You might also enjoy the “Richard Peddie grilled cheese sandwich.”

Or check out the entire four part series on Bell Fibe TV1.
