Weekly Buzz Newsletter: Open Air Continues

Jun 20, 2024

Open Air Weekends are back! Recently awarded “Best Street Festival“ at the Best of Windsor Essex Awards, and “The Most Wonderful Event of the Year” at the Biz X Awards.

Night Markets on Fridays, bagpipe parades on select Saturdays, free yoga in the park on Sundays, and of course our local shopping, restaurant patios, and live entertainment!

Pride Month is a time to recognize the rights, achievements, and continuing struggles of people belonging to 2SLGBTQ+ communities. From now until the end of the month, all of the staff picks with our rainbow shelf cards are 15% offboth in store and online. We want to encourage people to pick up these great books that we love so much! Come in store to look for the rainbows, or browse online: https://riverbookshop.com/collections/pride-picks-2024

Join us upstairs in the Hole in the Wall, on Saturday June 22, from 1-2PM! We're celebrating Pride Month with Walter Cassidy. Walter will give a talk on LGBTQ+ history in Windsor-Essex County, highlighting Amherstburg's rich history.

Walter Cassidy is the educator in residence for the Canadian Museum for Human Rights. He has been an educator for the past 24 years as well as a Windsor Ontario historian and activist. He has taught an AQ course for the University of Windsor ("How to Teach LGBTQ Students") for the last six years.

Story Time continues Sunday at 11AM and we have a special surprise! This week, River Bookshop is celebrating Pride month, and we want kids to know that River Bookshop is a Safe Space!

Join our booksellers Lauren and Darrie-Ann for a story time that will be all the colours of the rainbow! See you in the streets outside River Bookshop at 11AM all summer long.

Join Richard Peddie and Lloyd Alter at Art Windsor-Essex for a conversation about community building, growth, and sustainability. We will be on site selling copies of Lloyd Alter’s books, Living the 1.5 Degree Lifestyle (2021) and The Story of Upfront Carbon (2024), as well as Richard Peddie’s new book, Great Small Towns of Ontario (2024), and his 21 Leadership Lessons (2015).

Time and Date: Thursday, June 20, 2024, 6:30-7PM. Location: 2nd floor, Art Windsor-Essex, 401 Riverside Dr. W, Windsor. Cost: $10 gallery admission. AWE is always free for current AWE members and for Treaty Card Indian Status and Métis Card Holders. This event is part of AWE at Night.
