SHINOLA AT WHITE WOODS
Essex County’s relationship with Detroit goes back well over 200 years, from the War of 1812, to the rum runners of the 1920s, to the challenges caused by Detroit’s bankruptcy, to its inspiring resurgence — to sharing a river. We have all had a front row seat to its history. Today Detroit is an inspiring story of revitalization, reclamation, and rebirth. One Detroit story that has been especially inspiring is Shinola.
THE BACKSTORY
- Shinola was originally a shoe polish brand founded in 1877
- Ceased operations in 1960
- Revived in 2011 as a Detroit-based luxury goods company
- Known for its craftsmanship and quality
- A luxury design brand focused on leather goods, games, and watches
- The company has also been praised for its positive impact on Detroit’s economy and revitalization.
Unfortunately travel across the border is now uncomfortable for many of us. So we are pleased to announce that White Woods Home is now the “unofficial home” of Shinola in southern
Ontario.

WHITE WOODS IS THE UNOFFICIAL HOME OF SHINOLA
Shinola is a design brand with an unwavering commitment to crafting lasting products, from watches to leather goods and beyond. They celebrate timeless design and thoughtful craftsmanship with products and stories that inspire people to live well and be confident in a style that is uniquely their own.
White Woods Home has a much shorter history than Shinola. Opened in 2021, it has focused on upscale products for the home and gatherings. It has been so well received that we recently moved into a much larger space across the street to 56 Richmond. Now, the Shinola line is a little different than what White Woods normally carries, but we love quality, we support gutsy startups, and we like to offer customers special brands that they can’t easily get in the county. And like Shinola being an important participant in the revitalization of Detroit, White Woods has been a big part of the revitalization of Amherstburg.
With our lineup of beautiful leather bags, back packs, games, journals, and clocks, we would love for you to think of White Woods as your local place for purchasing Shinola. Yet another reason to visit beautiful heritage Amherstburg.
—The White Woods Team
P.S. White Woods is not carrying Shinola watches. But Precision Jewellers right next door does!
