MEALS ON WHEELS

Amherstburg Community Services provides home delivery of healthy meals in Amherstburg, Harrow, and LaSalle. These meals are very important for older adults living independently in their own homes with no one to cook for them, or for persons of any age recovering from illness or surgery. Led by their excellent Executive Director Kathy DiBartolomeo (Kat) and her team of 10, they also offer much more than food delivery:

  • a food pantry
  • numerous senior activities
  • transportation for seniors
  • and opportunities for our community

It’s also very smart that they are located in The Hub at 320 Richmond along with other non-profit agencies like The House Youth Centre, Essex County Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic, Fighting Island Boxing Club, and the Verdi Club.

Over the years, people (sadly even some on council) have criticized the investment in The Hub, which is both misguided and disappointing. Small towns like Amherstburg need safe, inviting places for its citizens to gather. All of The Hub tenants definitely contribute to making Amherstburg great. Another important community investment is the Libro Centre, which we will shine a light on in our August 19 post.

Like with The House Youth Centre and the Amherstburg Food and Fellowship Mission, we are donating $1000 to ACS. You too can contribute to this very necessary service by calling 519-736-5471. You probably know a senior who is struggling to get around, and you can help improve their lifestyle.

Listen to CKBG this coming Saturday and Sunday at 8AM to hear an interview with Executive Director Kathy DiBartolomeo.

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON IN ALBERTA??

Alberta joined Canada in 1905 and now they want to leave?? We sure don’t understand their attraction to Trump and MAGA—so unlike Canadian values. But Alberta banning books like Atwood's Handmaid's Tale, Orwell's 1984, and Oseman's Heartstopper, is really disappointing, concerning, … and confusing. Most banned books are simply standard coming of age material or honest depictions of real world issues.

So to shine a light on the continuous new waves of book banning, look for our "Banned in Alberta" display. We are offering a 🇨🇦 discount of 15% off these titles to encourage you to read books that all Canadians should read.
