K.G. MICELI & JOHN SCHLARBAUM BOOK SIGNING
Two of our bestselling local authors are joining forces for a double feature event, this Sunday, December 14th, from 1 to 3PM. Come meet K.G. Miceli, author of Tales of Texas Road and the new Tales of Sandwich Town, and John Schlarbaum, author of the Steve Cassidy mysteries, the new vinyl-collecting memoir Music Virgin No More, and many others.
Not sure what to get that special someone for Christmas? How about a signed copy of some spooky reads, or murder mystery? Both authors feature stories of Amherstburg, and they make an excellent gift—especially signed!

ANOTHER AMAZING AMHERSTBURG GIFT IDEA
Two years ago, we launched Meg Reiner’s hugely successful Heritage Buildings of Amherstburg. It was easily our #1 Christmas 2023 bestseller! A very big part of Amherstburg’s beautiful small town charm is its heritage buildings.
There are still people who claim that all our heritage buildings have been torn down. This book proves that nothing could be further from the truth! Yes, we have lost some beauties like the 1796 Lake View Hotel, the 1816 Amherstburg Post Office, and the 1893 Amherstburg Town Hall. But as you can see in this book, we still have 73 amazing heritage buildings in town. Check out the 1896 Gibson Gallery, 1798 Gordon House, the 1848 Stone Cottage, Christ Church built in 1818 … and of course River Bookshop built in 1885. Drop by our bookshop and pick up a copy for yourself or a friend.
To sweeten the deal, we now have a special price of $20 and each book is autographed by author Meg Reiner.
“Towns need old buildings so badly. It is probably impossible for vigorous streets and districts to grow without them.”
—Jane Jacobs

A River Runs Between Us is new from Walkerville Publishing—an illuminating exploration of the bond that exists between two border communities flanking the Detroit River. This book is 7 years in the making, and the care is evident when you flip through, including 370+ pages of full-colour photographs and stories.

The new Nomad Edition series has launched with three titles, and three more due out next spring. These are convenient, pocket-sized editions of global literature, easy to keep in a bag or anywhere you like. The first three titles are works of Korean and Japanese literature that resonate with audiences far beyond. Collect them all and discover new literary voices as you do!

Cindy's pick:
Sisters in the Wind is by the author of Firekeeper’s Daughter and Warrior Girl Unearthed, which you can read in any order, but there are echoes within each for the other stories. A Goodreads Choice Award nominee for Young Adult, this is a daring new mystery about a foster teen claiming her heritage on her own terms.
Taylor's pick:
The Raven Scholar is a masterfully woven and playfully inventive tale of imperial intrigue, cutthroat competition, and one scholar's quest to uncover the truth. But no description can quantify the greatness of this book—if you're looking for fantasy, this book is for you.

Darrie-Ann's pick:
Theo of Golden is a new work of historical fiction and already one of our bestsellers. A stranger buys back the portraits in a local coffeehouse, putting them back in the hands of their “rightful owners.” With each exchange, a story is told, a friendship born, and a life altered.
Julienne's pick:
The Sky Above follows the long and colourful career of award-winning poet, journalist, and photographer Marty Gervais, from extraordinary stories like meeting up with Mother Teresa in the basement of a Detroit church, to ordinary stories like driving through winter storms to watch his sons play hockey.

Brie's pick:
We Were Liars is a #1 NYT Bestseller, and now a TV show as well. A modern suspense novel that became a runaway smash hit on TikTok and introduced the world to a family hiding a jaw-dropping secret. Now in this deluxe edition with painted edges and exclusive content from the author!
Kyle's pick:
Sundays is part cookbook, part memoir. It's about breakfast, the joy of a father and son cooking together, and how we show love through food. With illustrations and 52 recipes for a full year of weekend breakfasts, this is a record of the first year of a father and son cooking together.

Hayley's pick:
The Witches at the End of the World is a story two sisters, in the birchwoods of Norway. For years they've been alone, but Kaija is tired of living in shadows and longs for a life filled with community, even if it means stifling her magic. But Minna is a witch through and through, with wrath always simmering just below the surface. One curse sets off a deadly chain of events.

Last Sunday our Story Time families enjoyed a double feature Story Time which included the Ozian Witches at 11AM and local author Nathan Christopher at 2PM. Our families (pictured above) had so much fun writing letters to Santa and then mailing them to the North Pole. Big thank you to our guest readers and our Story Time families. We hope to see you again this Sunday at 11AM.
So much to see and do in Amherstburg!
We hope to see you downtown this weekend.
