The Marble Walled School

Queen Victoria Public School, Windsor’s marble-walled school at the corner of Ellis and Victoria, first opened its doors to students in 1922. Thousands of students have marched through its front doors over the years and hundreds of teachers. The school remains operational today. The story presented here by Julienne Rousseau, a historian and graduate of the University of Windsor, weaves together the fascinating tales behind ten decades of schooling in the Victoria Avenue neighbourhood. Her discovery was that although everything has changed, many things have stayed the same. The story of Queen Victoria Public School’s hundred-year history may seem completed, but another chaper if its time-heralded story is just beginning.
