The late artist Mary Celestino, whose summer home on Pelee Island (in Lake Erie) inspired her to begin her project of recording and drawing the wildflowers that are so abundant on the limestone of Pelee Island and the other Islands scattered across the Western Basin of Lake Erie. Ms Celestino, a fine artist, not only drew each flower (all in line drawings) she also provided information on how First Nations/Native peoples used wild flowers for medicinal and other purposes.
