This first volume in a new series of colourful hiking guides introduces outdoor enthusiasts to a variety of waterside hikes in western Canada.

Stretching north to south in south-central British Columbia, the Okanagan Valley is almost 200 kilometres long, with an average width of 20 kilometres. Lying between the Cascade and Columbia mountain ranges, the South Okanagan Valley extends from Kelowna to Osoyoos, including Peachland, Summerland, Penticton, OK Falls, and Oliver. The valley extends well into Washington state. In this region, the Monashee Mountains are the prominent subrange of the Columbia mountain range. Known for its climate, and enjoying consequent popularity as a summer playground, the region’s waterways are plentiful and large.

While lakes form the basis for this guidebook, hikers and walkers will be exposed to some of the more scenic and interesting trails in the region that have a relationship with water, including creeks, rivers, ponds, wetlands, marshes, waterfalls, springs, and former waterways.

Some of the trips included are:

  • Angel Springs
  • Kathleen Lake
  • Lost Lake via Myra Canyon Bailout
  • Myra Canyon Bailout Loop (Wetlands Loop)
  • Rose Valley Mountainside
  • Gellatly Bay to Seclusion Bay
  • Lightblue Lake
  • Hardy Falls
  • Trout Creek
  • White Lake Grasslands Ponds
  • Naramata Creek Falls

Each route description includes:

  • detailed directions to trailheads
  • colour maps and photographs
  • seasonal information
  • round-trip distances
  • trail commentary
  • difficulty ratings
