Bugz, an indigenous teenager, is torn between two worlds. In the real world, she is shy and self-conscious, facing the anxieties of her age. In contrast, in the virtual world known as ‘Floraverse’, the setting for an international multiplayer video game, her ‘versona’ is not only confident, but completely dominates her opponents. She meets Feng, a young Uyghur dissident who was expelled from China and came to live in Canada with his aunt.
Avid online gamers, Bugz and Feng are somewhat the black sheep of their community and discover they have a lot in common. But their relationship is put to the test when everything Bugz has built in the Floraverse is suddenly threatened. They will both have to draw on unexpected strengths to restore their friendship and reconcile the parallel aspects of their lives.
