On Saturday is a presentation by bestselling author, award-winning journalist, and activist Desmond Cole. Desmond is not shy about “puncturing the naive assumptions of Canadians who believe we live in a post racial world.” You definitely don’t want to miss this powerful conversation. Given its history of protecting Freedom Seekers, the Nazrey A.M.E. Church is a perfect setting for Desmond’s 1 pm talk.Â
Story Time Is Back!
Happy new year River Bookshop readers! Welcome to the 2023 season of Sunday Story Time. Our first story time reader of the year will be local musician Kara Kaufmann. On Sunday, January 22nd, Kara will enchant the audience with a live performance of original songs from her new album, “Dino Lullabies” and a few storybooks, of course!

We are quickly approaching February, and we have a special announcement about Black History Month. The River Bookshop and Amherstburg Freedom Museum are partnering to present a full week of programming, which we call, A Celebration of Black History Month: Looking Forward From the Past.Â

A few Sundays ago, on October 9th, our bookseller Darrie-Ann captivated her audience with her sentimental stories about Thanksgiving and autumn. The kids were very attentive during her reading!
